My Amish Indiana Tours

Quotes from Online customer reviews

"We toured six states and we all agreed when we got home that the Amish tour was our favorite part of our trip. Susan was so knowledgeable about everything and she knew so many Amish families, so we got to see way more than we ever thought we would."

"We had the most amazing tour with Gary through Amish Country. The private tour is the absolute way to go. We learned so much about how the Amish live and were able to ask so many questions. I highly recommend this experience to anyone. 5 stars for sure! "

" I wouldn’t have ever considered hiring a personal guide because that sounded expensive, but actually it was so worth it...   Instead of me looking things up to answer my family’s questions, I had a walking encyclopedia right there the whole time."

"Susan provided us with a great morning sharing her knowledge as we visited many local shops and stores, schools, and sites.  Her conversational narratives were informative and always interesting.  I would recommend her services without reservation."

"I had the privilege of taking Susan's Amish tour not once, but twice – once with my husband and another with my family visiting from Southeast Asia... Susan's passion and knowledge shone through as she shared captivating stories about Amish culture."

"If you want to immerse yourself in the local Amish community, learn about the people and culture, and meet with some of the greatest folks in the area - hire Sue (I’m sure Gary is wonderful, too!).  She spent the day with us and was a fountain of knowledge."

Touring with My Amish Indiana

Things to know about our tours...

  • Our purpose is to show you the local Amish culture and answer your questions. This is not just a shopping tour (unless you want it to be).
  • We don’t offer buggy rides or meals. (We have an Amish friend who offers meals; see the link on our home page.)
  • We don’t have a tour bus or van; one of us "rides shotgun" in your vehicle. (Our vehicle can be used for an additional cost; it holds 3-4 guests.)
  • We don’t have a regular daily tour schedule—each tour is custom-scheduled.
  • We charge per hour, not per person.  Cost with your vehicle is $35 per hour.
  • Tours usually start and end at the Essenhaus Inn in Middlebury.
  • There are three ways to do a tour:

  1. Let us decide the route for you—just tell us how much time you want to invest.
  2.  See the ‘menu’ below, and choose the stops that appeal to you.
  3. Do a specialized theme tour:  Intro to Amish Indiana (2 hours); Farms & Gardens; Locally Made; Quilting & Crafting; the Husband-Friendly Tour; the Foodie Tour (bring a cooler!); Sue's Deeper Dive into the Amish Culture; or Sue's Quirky Favorites .  Click here for details on these themed tours.

  • Time per stop varies tremendously, depending on how long per stop (especially for shopping stops) and distance between stops.  You decide the pace of the tour—it's not "you have 20 minutes here" or "be back here at 2:00" unless we've booked ahead with a craftsman for a certain time.
  • Some Amish businesses close early on Saturdays, so it's best to start early.
  • We do tours year-round, but the weather is mildest in spring and fall.
  • See the photo gallery below, if you want to get a feel for the area.
