touring with My Amish Indiana
Things to know up front...
- Our purpose is to show you the local Amish culture and answer your questions—we love questions!
- We don’t offer buggy rides or meals. (We have an Amish friend who offers meals in her home; see the link on the home page.)
- We don’t have a tour bus or van. One of us typically ‘rides shotgun’ in your vehicle to guide and narrate the tour. Our vehicle can be used for a tour for an additional cost (it holds 3-4 guests).
- We charge by the hour. Cost with your vehicle is $35 per hour (not per person).
- We don’t have a regular daily tour schedule—we schedule each tour individually. Either of us can do a 2 to 8 hour tour; sometimes we each take half a day.
- We don't spend much time in the central Shipshewana shopping district. Instead, we take you further out into the countryside and other small towns.
- Most of our friends are Amish, so our information doesn’t come from books or the internet, nor is it a pre-planned lecture; each tour is unique.
- We usually don’t do Sunday tours (everything is closed), but we can do an orientation tour in the afternoon—good if you are unfamiliar with the area.
- Some Amish businesses close early on Saturdays, so Saturday afternoon options might be more limited than on weekdays.
- We do tours year-round, although the weather is the mildest in spring and fall.
